Our Programs
K-2 Coed Hoops Program
The K-2 Coed Hoops Program is an introduction level program designed to give kids their first look at the game of basketball. The primary goals for kids in this program are to have fun, stay active, and learn basic basketball skills. The program is divided into roughly 3 components: dribbling games/relays, skills stations, and scrimmaging. Players will learn basic basketball skills like dribbling, passing, shooting (8-foot high rims), layups, pivoting, rebounding, defensive position, and more. The final week of the program is normally held at the high school and run with the assistance of the Sanborn High School teams followed by an ice cream social. Sessions are led by an experienced parent coach, but the success of the program also depends heavily on parent volunteers, so feel free to lace up and help out!
This program is normally 8-10 weeks on Saturday mornings starting in early December and ending the weekend before February school vacation week. All regular sessions are at the Sanborn High School in Kingston.
Grade 3/4 Girls and Boys Winter Program
The 3rd/4th Grade Girls & Boys Basketball program is also a beginner level program where players are still learning basic skills but can now develop them in live games.
The primary goals for kids in this program are to have fun, stay active, continue to learn and further develop basketball skills, and work together as a team. Players will also begin to bring their skills together as part of live game play and learn the structure/rules of the game (i.e. tipoff, inbounding, traveling, double dribbling, foul shooting/line ups, man-to-man defense, etc.).
Games at this level are scored and refereed and could be either 3v3 with a 9-foot rim or 5v5 with a standard 10-foot rim. The season is comprised at least one team practice per week and one game per week as well possible opportunities for jamborees and tournaments.
Teams are led by volunteering parent coaches and assistant coaches who are responsible for communicating schedules, running practices, and coaching games.
We are always in need of parent coaches so please consider helping out!
This program starts with skills sessions (1 hour/ week) in the fall and shifts to team practices in November and games kicking off in December or January. The season runs through the beginning of March. All regular practices are at Swasey Gym in Kingston on a weekday between 5 and 9 pm. Games are either at our home gym, Sanborn High School or Swasey Gym in Kingston, or at the opposing team gym, typically on the weekend.
